Ground Anchors of Differing Sizes Partially driven in to grass

Ground Anchors - Can They Be Used on Fake Grass?

This a question we get asked a lot : Ground Anchors - Can They Be Used on Fake Grass?

They have been used on fake grass, but one thing to consider is that you would need to cut a hole into the fake grass and then drive the anchor through the fake grass into the ground below.

This will most likely damage the fake grass. If the anchor is to stay in place permanently then this should not be an issue.
However, the most important consideration is the ground below the fake grass and it's suitability to hold the ground anchor in place.
So yes — you can use ground anchors on fake grass, but only if the artificial turf is installed over soil or compacted sub-base that allows the anchor to penetrate beneath the grass layer. The anchor must be able to drive fully into solid ground to achieve proper holding strength.
Important considerations:
  • If the fake grass is laid over concrete, decking, or another hard surface, ground anchors will not work, as they cannot penetrate the base.
  • Check that the turf backing and infill won’t be damaged by the anchor.
  • Always ensure the anchor is driven deep enough to achieve secure holding, especially in exposed or high-wind conditions.

Summary:
Ground anchors are suitable on artificial grass only when real ground exists underneath. If the surface is hard, choose an alternative fixing method.
